The rollout of the fifth generation of mobile networks, 5G, could cause widespread health implications and even cancer according to scientists, with one researcher describing it “the stupidest idea” in human history.
The 5G network is set to come into effect this year, and is the evolution of 4G. What sets 5G apart from its predecessors is its speed, with download speeds theoretically reaching 10 gigabytes per second – were as 4G had a max of 300 megabytes per second. The ultra-high speeds will be extremely beneficial for businesses and the public alike, according to economic forecasters who believe it will help herald an age of artificial intelligence and self driving cars.
However, others are concerned that the benefits could come at a very costly price.
To establish the 5G network, thousands of antennae have had to be installed which has some worried.On top of that, 5G will use higher radio frequencies which are more concentrated than the signals used by the likes of 4G which could bring health concerns. Martin Pall, PhD and Professor Emeritus of Biochemistry and Basic Medical Sciences at Washington State University, believes the instillation of 5G antennae is “the stupidest idea”.
In his report, 5G: Great risk for EU, U.S. and International Health, Dr Pall wrote: “Putting in tens of millions of 5G antennae without a single biological test of safety has got to be about the stupidest idea anyone has had in the history of the world.”
There are now, according to Dr Martin Blank, very high levels of electromagnetic radiation. As radiation causes cancer that has caused concern. Dr Blank from Columbia University’s Department of Physiology and Cellular Biophysics, agreed with the sentiment, and stated at a recent presentation: “We have created something that is harming us, and it is getting out of control.
“Before Edison’s light bulb there was very little electromagnetic radiation in our environment. The levels today are very many times higher than natural background levels, and are growing rapidly because of all the new devices that emit this radiation.
